Your Mac login password.
The password remains the baseline way to access your Mac user account. It does not require a fingerprint sensor, a watch, or a third-party camera app. It is also different from your Apple Account password. Knowing that distinction matters when a convenience method asks you to type a password again. Apple explains the distinction in its Mac login password guidance.
Touch ID on supported hardware.
If your Mac or compatible Magic Keyboard has Touch ID, you can enroll a fingerprint and enable it for unlocking. You still need to enter your password after starting the Mac, and macOS can require it again under other security conditions. Hardware compatibility matters, particularly with external keyboards; the presence of a fingerprint key does not establish compatibility with every Mac.
See Apple’s Touch ID setup guide for the supported flow.
Apple Watch Auto Unlock.
Auto Unlock is useful when you already wear a compatible Apple Watch. Apple requires compatible devices with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, the same Apple Account protected by two-factor authentication, and a watch passcode. The watch must be unlocked and close to the Mac.
After turning on, restarting, or logging out of the Mac, the first login still requires the password. Read Apple’s Auto Unlock requirements and setup before deciding whether it fits your devices.
Where Lunlo is intended to fit.
Lunlo explores a deliberate camera scan for an existing locked session. The planned flow combines local face recognition, liveness checks, a locally authorized session, and verified membership before entering a saved Mac password. It requires camera and Accessibility access; it does not replace FileVault or startup login.
Its ordinary RGB camera does not offer Face ID depth sensing, and video replay remains a risk. Real-world unlock and biometric performance have not been verified. The current build is not Apple-notarized, and sign-in, checkout, and public downloads remain closed.
Make the choice from your requirements.
Check your hardware first, then consider whether you want to touch a sensor, wear a watch, or evaluate a future camera workflow. Keep the password available in every case. There are no verified Lunlo speed, reliability, or security comparisons that justify choosing it over Apple’s built-in options today.
